OVERVIEW

The other classic trek in the Annapurna region is to the so-called Annapurna sanctuary, the site of the base camp used by expeditions attempting the massive south face of Annapurna I. The trek to Annapurna base camp combines some of the most spectacular mountain scenery with a fascinating insight into the life of middle hill Nepalese. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the main trekking season of spring and autumn but since the route is not a circuit, the trial, and the teahouses, can become crowded at these times. Winter trek are possible but at any time trekkers must beware of snowfall and avalanches that can block the narrow entrance to the sanctuary.

ITINERARY

  • Day 01 : Arrive in Kathmandu

To get to Kathmandu International Airport (KTM), each trekker must arrange their own flights. We will set up a private transfer for you from Kathmandu Airport to your hotel. You will meet your local Kandoo representative that evening, and you will receive a thorough pre-trek briefing.

  • Day 02 : Fly to Pokhara – Drive to Nayapul – Trek to Tikhedhunga

With stunning views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, the five peaks of Annapurna, among others, we will fly to Pokhara in the morning. After that, we will make an hour-long trip to Nayapul, where our trek will begin. Following the river’s south bank, we continue through subtropical valley forests and across a tall suspension bridge to cross the Modi Khola. Once we arrive in the settlement of Tikhedhunga, where we will spend the night, we continue ascending along this trail.

  • Day 03 : Trek to Ghorepani

We depart from the tiny settlement of Thikedhungga and cross a narrow suspension bridge across a narrow gorge to begin the ascent to Ulleri. Fortunately, there are stairs along the entire route, which helps to ease the arduous climb. After Ulleri, the trail continues to snake through rhododendron forests, past lovely waterfalls, and we ascend up and down a little while taking in the views of Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail), which can be seen peaking out above the lush green mountains. Once there, we are greeted with breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range from the settlement of Ghorepani.

  • Day 04 : POON HILL Up, Travel to Tadapani

We will leave this morning in the dark to climb Poon Hill, regarded as one of Nepal’s top vantage sites. The difficult ascent to Poon Hill’s viewpoint is definitely worth it for the breathtaking sunrise views of Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and the Annapurnas. Then, as we make our way through rhododendron forests with stunning vistas of the high mountains and rich greenery, we start our descent toward Tadapani.

  • Day 05 : Trek to Chomrong

We will make our way through the community of Chuile, drop to Lower Chomrong, and then ascend the 1.000 stony steps that lead to Upper Chomrong.

  • Day 06 : Trek to Bamboo

The track leaves Chomrong by descending to bridge the Chomrong Khola and then ascending through bamboo thickets and rhododendron trees to leave the valley. The town of Bamboo is located in a woodland clearing.

  • Day 07 : Trek to Machhapuche Base Camp

Our trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) begins today. Although quite a challenging trek, it is well worth it when you see Machhapuchchhre’s breathtaking scenery. We arrive at Machhapuchhre Base Camp, where we spend the night, after traversing the peaks of Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre.

  • Day 08 : Trek to Annapurna Base Camp

The vegetation diminishes as we travel from Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp, and we will be trekking through glacial moraine. The south face of Annapurna, which towers over you and is nearly vertical, will be our first sight. The 360-degree vistas from Annapurna Base Camp are among the most breathtaking in the Himalaya. Peaks like Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna IV, and Hiunchuli will literally be all around us.

Then, after passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we return to Himalaya from Annapurna Base Camp. It’s much simpler to return to the valley by going down than up. We shall witness the waterfalls that descend to the rocks below from a high position.

  • Day 09 : Trek to Chomrong.

To get to Chomrong, we will hike past the villages of Bamboo and Sinuwa.

  • Day 10 : Trek to Nayapool and drive to Pokhara

Our final day on the trek is today as we descend to Nayapul and bid the Annapurna Conservation Park farewell. After that, we will drive approximately 1 1/2 hours to get to your Pokhara hotel beside the lake.

  • Day 11 : Fly Pokhara to Kathmandu

From Pokhara, we fly early in the morning to Kathmandu. The afternoon is yours to spend exploring the nation’s capital.

  • Day 12 : Final departure

We will pick you up from your hotel and transport you to the airport in Kathmandu in time for your flight out.
