OVERVIEW

Cho Oyu (8,201) is the sixth highest mountain in the world, located a short distance to the west from Everest and Lhotse (the fourth highest) in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal along the Tibetan border. Its towering peak stands with Everest well above the surrounding mountains. It became a familiar landmark to climbers ascending Everest’s north face. Just west of Cho Oyu is the Nangpa La, a 19,000-foot glacier pass, and the main trade route between the khumbu Sherpas and Tibet. Cho Oyu’s proximity to the Nangpa la has earned it the distinction among some climbers as being the easiest 8,000-meter peak. It was the third such peak climbed, and the first climbed in autumn by two Australian.

ITINERARY

  • Day 01 Arrival In Kathmandu And Transfer To The Hotel

You must get a Nepal Entry Visa at the desk when you arrive at the airport. Following these steps, one of our representatives will meet you, welcome you, and transport you to the 3-star hotel that has been reserved so that you may relax. Thamel is a great place to freshen up and spend the evening.

  • Day 02 Preparation Day

We will complete the appropriate paperwork and legalities on the second day. We’ll also get the required licenses. While waiting, you might purchase for personal items you might need for the hike and the journey.

  • Day 03 Drive From Kathmandu To Timure (1742m )

Following a hearty and satisfying breakfast at the hotel, our adventure begins early in the morning. We’ll take a car to the little settlement of Timure in the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. Although the trip up the hills on uneven roads would be rather exhausting, the beauty of nature will divert our attention from the discomfort and provide us serenity and tranquility.

  • Day 04 Drive To Kerung (1962 M)

We’ll spend the night in Timure and then continue on to Kerung. In the Solukhumbu District, the settlement of Kerung acts as a trade corridor between China and Nepal. The journey to Kerung is both thrilling and difficult.

  • Day 05 to 06 Drive To Tingri And Acclimatize (4300m)

We’ll leave Kerung and reach Tibet, China’s autonomous region, after crossing the border. We keep driving upwards till we arrive in Tingri. An significant commercial hub for farmers from Nepal and Tibet used to be Tingri, an ancient village in Tibet. Tingri is a lovely area to rest and acclimatize because to its gorgeous villages, freshwater rivers, and lovely meadows.

  • Day 07 to 09 Drive To Chinese Base Camp (5100 M) And Acclimatize

From Tingri, we travel to Chinese Base Camp for Cho Oyu, where we spend two additional days to adjust to the altitude. Since we’ll be driving instead of hiking, we need to set aside some time for acclimation because we’ll be climbing to a high altitude in only one day.

  • Day 10 Trek To Intermediate Camp (5400 M)

To the Chinese Base Camp is the only place we’ll be driving. We will continue to acclimatize for two more days before setting out for the Intermediate Camp. Yaks and porters will transport our supplies and luggage all the way to the intermediate camp. We will erect our intermediate camp with full board tented service at an altitude of 5400 m.

  • Day 11 Trek To The Advanced Base Camp (5700 M)

After leaving the intermediate camp, we ascend to the Advanced base camp, which is located at a height of 5700 meters. As we get ready for our ascent to the peak of Cho Oyu, we will separate the climbing gear and equipment.

  • Day 12 to 37 Climbing Period Of Cho Oyu

The next three and a half weeks were spent climbing Cho Oyu. On this course we follow a climbing acclimatization program with equipment and rest days. Climbing to the summit requires setting up three higher camps on the upper slopes of the mountain, above the base camp.

Camp 1 is set at 6400m and is led along a moraine route to the main glacier, then turns east towards a branch glacier that requires climbers to climb steeply through rock and snow.

The route to Camp 2 (7,000 m) follows a moderately snowy ridge before a small ice sheet opening onto a large plateau. After Camp 2, we had to climb a 30-degree snow slope to reach Camp 3 at an altitude of 7400 m.

On summit day, we headed to Yellow Band, a short but steep rock and ice wall that was difficult and technically demanding. After crossing the Yellow Strip, we headed up the West Face to the top of the plateau. Most climbers stop at a set of prayer flags and believe they have reached the summit, but there is still a 15-minute walk across the plateau to the point with spectacular views of Nepal’s Gokyo Lake. This point is the Cho peak.

After witnessing exceptional views of mountain ranges including Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and the fascinating Gokyo Lake, we slowly made our way back to advanced base camp. Summit day requires 10 to 12 hours of hiking over rock, ice and snow.

  • Day 38 Trek Down To Intermediate Camp

We then made our way back to Intermediate Base Camp filled with exhilaration and a sense of success.

  • Day 39 Drive To Tingri

After leaving the Intermediate Base Camp, we’ll ride a vehicle back to Tingri, an antiquated Tibetan town.

  • Day 40 Drive To Kerung

We rest the following night at Kerung, which is the Nepal-China border, after spending the previous night in Tingri.

  • Day 41 Drive To Kathmandu

We return to Kathmandu by driving along the same rough, rocky route we used earlier and unwind in our hotel.

  • Day 42 to 43 Sightseeing In Kathmandu

Kathmandu is a lovely city with many of interesting places to see. Numerous heritages are also included on the World Heritage List. Visit Bhaktapur, Patan, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, or simply wander the streets of Thamel while sampling some local delicacies. In Kathmandu, you may purchase lovely trinkets to bring home to your loved ones.
