OVERVIEW
Kanchenjunga is also known by similarly spelled names, such as Kangchenjunga or Kinchinjunga. Located in the Great Himalayas, this is the third highest peak in the world. The summit massif is made up of four peaks, three of which rise to more than 8,000 meters above sea level. Kanchenjunga I is the highest at 8,586 meters. Kanchenjunga West takes second place at an altitude of 8,505 metres. Next is Kanchenjunga South – 8494 meters. Finally, the lowest is Kangbachen at 7,903 meters. The position of the vertices resembles a cross, each vertex represents an arm. There are four main ridges connecting the peaks to adjacent peaks. The Kanchenjunga range is rich in glaciers. Once considered the world’s highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, meaning “five treasures of the high snows”, lies between Nepal and India. This magnificent mountain was first climbed in 1955 by Joe Brown and George Band in the British Kanchenjunga Expedition, 50 years after the first attempt to climb Kanchenjunga in 1905.
Mythical beliefs about Mount Kanchenjunga
People in the surrounding areas of India and Nepal reported seeing a mysterious creature wandering on the slopes of Kanchenjunga mountain. In 1925, a British expedition sighted a bipedal creature that locals described as a mountain devil. Local people believe that the mountain is the residence of the gods. The story of the Valley of Immortality is another famous legend associated with the mountain. Known as Beyul Demoshong in Tibetan, it is said to be hidden somewhere on the snowy slopes of Kanchenjunga.

Most of the ascent will be on snow, ice and glaciers. Therefore, we will practice with ice axes, crampons and ladders before reaching the summit. The final section involves climbing a steep horizontal rock section. We will climb one step before the main peak, as it is considered pious and holy.
