OVERVIEW

Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest mountain lies on the Nepal-Tibet border. The north west face, now considered the normal route, is fairly straight forward, requiring only a couple of hundred meters fixed rope. The success rate on Cho Oyu is higher than any other 8000 m peak. This expedition requires 3 Camps, including one at 7500 m Camp 1 can be reached without climbing on snow. Advanced base Camp offers a terrific view over the Nangpa La to Nepal and the Khumbu valley.

ITINERARY

  • Day 1 Arrival Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel B/B

    There will be a member of the Himalayan trekkers group waiting for you with your nameplate. After arrival, there will be a meet-and-greet, greeting, assistance, and transfer to the hotel for the night.

  • Day 2 Kathmandu sightseeing & expedition preparation

    Your city guide will pick you up this morning after breakfast and take you to some of the famous sites in the Kathmandu Valley, including Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

    Some of them you will visit, and during the remaining time you can make any last-minute trip purchases after discussing with your adventure guide.

  • Day 3 Scenic flight to Gongkar Airport, Lhasa

    Following breakfast, you will have a beautiful flight to Lhasa before being transferred to your hotel.

  • Day 4 Full-day Lhasa sightseeing

    We will tour the Dalai Lama’s residence, the Potala Palace, after breakfast. This marvel of architecture serves as the Tibetan people’s emblem of togetherness. King Soongtsan Gampo, who was wed to Princess Wen Cheng Tang in 641 A.D., constructed this palace. On Hongshan Hill, 999 dwellings have been constructed, with a crimson structure perched atop. It is among the largest palaces ever built.

    We will travel to the Jokhang Temple, the most revered temple among Tibetan Buddhists, after lunch. Following our visit to the Jokhang temple, we’ll stroll down Barkhor Street, a typical Lhasa ancient street.

  • Day 5 Drive to Gyantse

    We’ll visit the Bazaar market and the Tashilumpo Monastery in the early morning. Gyantse will be our next destination, a few hours away. It functioned as the center of a minor monarchy in the fifteenth century. Here, Kumbum Chorten, a structure from the fourteenth century, is worth viewing.

  • Day 6 Drive to Xigatse

    Today, after seeing Khumbum Stupa and Palkor Monastery, the program will begin. After finishing our sightseeing in Gyantse, we will travel the 90 km (approximately 2 hours) in the direction of Xigatse.

    We will visit the Tashilumpo Monastery and the Free Tibetan Market after checking into the hotel and taking a little nap.

  • Day 7 Drive to Tingri

    Following breakfast, you will have a beautiful drive to Tingri, where you will spend the night with the other members of your excursion team.

  • Day 8 Acclimatization day at Tingri & short hike

    On your free day, your leader will guide you on a 5000-meter hill hike to get to know the area.

    Overnight.

  • Day 9 Drive to Chinese Base Camp

    Since you will just have a brief but intriguing trip to the Chinese base camp, you may start your day a little later today.

    Overnight.

  • Day 10 Acclimatization & preparation for expedition

    Today can be used to organize Yaks and other items needed for the expedition’s duration.

    You can go on a hike to a neighboring location and take in the scenery.

  • Day 11 Trek to middle camp

    After a hearty breakfast, we will go to the middle camp, where we will spend the night.

  • Day 12 Trek to Ad. Base Camp of Cho Oyu

    After an early breakfast, we will set off on our hike to Mount Cho Oyu’s (5700m) Ad. base camp, where we will set up camp for the night.

  • Day 13 to 39 Climbing period- Summiting Mount Cho Oyu

    You will become closer to the members of the expedition team who will help you realize your ambition during this time.

    You will adjust to the environment, stay in several camps, scale Mount Cho Oyu, and then descend to the Ad. base camp.

  • Day 40 Trek back to middle camp & return drive to Tingri

    After a satisfying breakfast, we will tidy up our tent and hike back to Middle camp.

    We will have a beautiful trip back to Tingri for an overnight stay once we get at the middle camp.

  • Day 41 Drive back to Xigatse

    We’ll have a beautiful journey back to Xigatse where we’ll spend the night.

  • Day 42 Scenic flight/drive to Lhasa

    We will return to Xigatse for a lovely drive.From Xigatse, you may take a beautiful flight or drive to Lhasa. Free to independently explore Lhasa while staying the night.

  • Day 43 Scenic flight to Kathmandu

    We will take a picturesque flight back to Kathmandu after a hearty breakfast. Once in Kathmandu, you are left alone.

    Farewell meal and cultural program in the evening.

  • Day 44 Final departure

    While saying goodbye is always difficult, a representative from Himalayan Trekkers will drive you off at the airport three hours prior to takeoff and collect comments on your journey.
