OVERVIEW

Kanchenjunga was forbidden to trekkers before this region was opened in 1988. This mountain is situated on the border of Nepal and Sikkim (a state in India). So particularly, it is not possible to take a circuit of this mountain. It is suggested you to visit the north and south side of the mountain from the Nepal side. Equipped for a high crossing, this trek requires enough time (3 to 4 weeks). A special trekking permit is required to trek in this region.

The trail travels through a forest of pine, bamboo, rhododendron, and oak where you may walk in solitude while listening to the lovely bird tweeting and also witness the variety of birdlife. This forest is located behind the village of Amjjilossa. As you go further, the villages start to look more Tibetan. Gyabla is the destination for today.

  • Day 09 : Trek to Ghunsa

As you continue on the trail, you pass through a forest and the winter settlement village of Phale. In the past, it served as a camp for Tibetan refugees. We continue on the trail until we reach Ghunsa, where we will rest for the day. It is the largest settlement in the region and is home to a police station, office, and health post. Additionally, the area has access to communication tools like the phone and the internet.

  • Day 10 : Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa
